At Strength & Spine Chiropractic, we get asked a lot of questions about groin strains and if this is a sports injury we can do anything about. The groin is also another name for the muscles in the medial compartment of the thigh collectively known as the hip adductors. There are five muscles in this group; gracilis, obturator externus, adductor brevis, adductor longus (most commonly injured), and adductor magnus. An examination done by a clinician is important to rule out things like sports hernias, hip injury, or other pathology that could be causing your groin pain. Groin strains account for up to 5% of all sports injuries.

Common Symptoms of Groin Strains are

  • Pain w/ sprinting or quickly changing directions
  • Initial Bruising/swelling
  • Adductor weakness and/or pain with resistance
  • Painful when stretching into hip abduction

Sometimes people think their symptoms will go away with time and that’s often not the case so most clinicians see this as a chronic injury that worsens if not appropriately treated. This responds well to conservative treatment and surgery is rarely needed! The primary goal early on is to minimize how immobile you are and gain a full range of motion back. Shockwave therapy is one of the things at Strength & Spine that has provided improved recovery time and prognosis. This in combination with our soft tissue techniques improves your pain, poor circulation, and painful range of motion.

Since there are different factors to analyze regarding age, acute or chronic, sport, and strength, each person’s starting point utilizing rehab is going to be different. Creating a one-of-a-kind physiotherapy plan will not only get you back on track but also decrease your chances of reinjuring yourself. This is an area that is rarely strengthened and if not properly addressed is prone to aggravation.

Chiropractic manipulation, also known as Chiropractic adjustment, targets restricted joints in the spine and extremities and allows for a temporary increase in motion in those joints and surrounding tissues. Manipulation of the lumbopelvic and hip regions can give much relief and allow our rehabilitative exercises to be even more effective. This is something that physical therapists can’t do and is another tool we can use to help you.

Strength & Spine Chiropractic is the place for you if you have a sports injury because we have a unique approach, see this all of the time, and can combine all of these treatments (and more) to give you the results you have been always wanted but never able to achieve.
