KAMS Assessment: How it helps Coaches and Athletes Understand Movement

As a Coach or Teaching Professional, we understand that you want the best for your athletes. It can be frustrating to see any athlete injured, not able to perform at his best, or not able to join the rest of the team.

Two common questions that I have been asked as a clinician who works with athletes are “How do I optimize my client’s performance?” and “What should I do to prevent injury?”

My go-to answer when I hear these questions is to do a KAMS assessment.

KAMS stands for Kinetisense Advanced Movement Screen. It is a technology that efficiently and objectively assesses the fundamental movement of patients and athletes with a one-of-a-kind approach that combines proprietary software with a single front-facing 3D sensor. Engage the patient and help them reach a whole new level through the easy-to-understand outputs of the KAMS functional movement screen.

Getting a Functional Screen can have many benefits but I believe these two points are the most important.

1. Injury Reduction

One of the most common causes of injuries is a previous injury to the same area. Another common injury or cause of injury is the joint above or below another previous area of pain or dysfunction. Is that painful injury/area the victim or villain? For example, if the main complaint is low back pain, is the mid back or hips contributing to this pain or dysfunction? Using a tool like the KAMs assessment will allow us to assess all of these joint systems in an objective way to help the athletes.

2. Improve Sports Performance

Having a clinician able to aid in seeing where you or your athlete is lacking stability or mobility at each joint level can help individually customize warm-ups, workouts, rehab exercises, and recovery. Doing this can help you play at your best and be more efficient with your time.

This is only one of many tools we have available to help you understand how to prevent injuries and perform at a higher level for your sport or activity so that you can continue to enjoy your life as the healthiest version of yourself.
