Parents want nothing but the best for their kids. Parents do so much for their children and parents whose children play sports or have hobbies, do even more. Parents have a LOT to deal with between the school team practices and games, the skills training sessions, workout sessions, and then add on the AAU or Travel team schedule. The last thing a parent wants is for their kid to be hurt or feel pain. That's how a quality sports chiropractor can be the secret weapon to helping your youth athlete recover from injury and/or reduce the risk of injuries.
The main reason a sports chiropractor is a secret weapon is the diverse abilities and scope of practice. Between our diagnostic capabilities, ability to refer for imaging, quality hands manual therapy skills, and extensive rehabilitation knowledge, there isn't much we can't help with. And if we can't help, we send you to one of our trusted partners.
In sports, injuries are inevitable. Knowing who to take your athlete to after an acute and/or traumatic injury is important so you don't waste time, effort, and money. The latest injury we saw by a youth athlete was an inversion ankle sprain during a volleyball game. The whole ankle and foot were black and blue, swollen, and painful. We sent out for radiographs (X-ray) to rule out fracture and luckily nothing was broken. Because of the severity, we also sent the patient for an MRI to determine the ligamentous damage. After determining there was extensive damage, a referral to orthopedics was made and it was determined that the patient was advised to go the non-surgical route and continue the conservative care with us.
Treatment involved pain modulation using our world-class equipment such as the Winback Tecar therapy and Class IV laser and a combination of hands-on techniques. In addition, we started physiotherapy exercises aimed at restoring mobility and strengthening the surrounding musculature to stabilize the joint.
As the care progressed and the youth athlete started feeling better, we started getting back into sports-specific exercises to help the athlete build confidence in their movements and build the tolerance for more powerful and explosive exercises. After 8 weeks, we were able to get this athlete back from a traumatic injury to back on the court with no pain.
Why is any of that important? Well, it's a great story and example of how we can help the injury process from the ENTIRE process. From the first few days following the injury to the imaging referrals, pain relief, physiotherapy, and return-to-sport clearance.
THAT'S what makes us the secret weapon. Whether it's from the beginning or the middle of recovery from an injury, we can help on many different levels and if we can't, we do our absolute best to help you find the right people for you.
If you're a parent with a youth athlete struggling from an injury or has recently been injured, it's important to have people on your team that will do everything they can to help and support you and your athlete.
